EOTO #1

In class we presented our discoveries from our research of various technological devices/inventions and discussed how they affected the world or a specific industry/target audience. Of the many devices here was the one that stood out the most to me.

1.  Phonographs were invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. It was modelled after Leon Scott's phonautograph. The phonautograph was the earliest version of a audio recording device. However, with Edison's device it didn't go how he had intended. Instead of it just being used for general audio it became a device that revolutionized the music industry at the time. This did hurt some people. Specifically, the musicians in families. Most families had at least one relative that could play an instrument. However, with the invention of phonographs and them becoming available in the household, a lot of families no longer have that family member that plays the piano or guitar for everyone. They just put on a record and play it. This has also allowed many artists and creators to spread their work over a wide area without them needing to travel and pay for a live tour.

This was the number one invention for me because I deeply enjoy being able to listen to music whenever I want on my phone or from my computer. And this technology was what started the idea of letting people have music available at their convenience. Over all the invention and constant development of the phonograph led us to the modern convenience that we take for granted.
