EOTO #1 my technology
For my portion of my group’s presentation, I talked about drones.
Drones fall under the category of UAV's also known as UN-Manned Ariel Vehicles. And on record the first thing to set this category was the hot air balloon. While this is probably the very last thing you would think of when you think of this category it actually is considered the very first in the category. A hot air balloon operates by using the air currents to drift through the air. So, because it doesn’t have any solid controls it falls under the category.
Drones as we know them now were utilized by the army first. In 1973 it was recorded s the first time of the use of a drone with a camera being used in combat. It was used by Israel to scout out the geography of the battlefield and to locate the enemies. This was a huge leap in warfare. To be able to scout out the battlefield and gain information on the enemy’s location is a huge tactical advantage and it wasn’t soon after that the armies of the world copied this idea.
It wasn’t until 2006 that the us allowed the use of drone in civilian airspace. It was during Hurricane Katrina and many civilians were still missing. So, the rescue teams used the aerial advantage to scope out the flooded neighborhoods and find stranded/trapped civilians. This was once again another testament to the advantages of the drone of how versatile that they can not only be used for combat but that they can even find uses in civilian spaces. And this trend continued all the way to our current time.
Drones not to long ago have become a regular seen thing used by regular citizens, and private businesses alike. For example, news stations are a business that has taking full advantage. News stations in the past used their own news helicopters. However, it’s not only Channel 12s helicopter but it’s also channel 5s helicopter. This was a very normal thing because as someone could guess, owning a helicopter is very expensive, so it wasn’t uncommon for channels to have to share helicopters between each other. The expenses in question would be fuel and maintenance. However, with drones the prices are a significantly smaller fraction of the price of the helicopter. Also drones have an advantage in terms of maneuverability. Helicopters can’t get to low other wise the wind from the blades would affect the surrounding area. However, with a drone you can hover just above the streets and fly in between small spaces Not only does the news use them but sports broadcasts have begun using them as well as real estate businesses and even photographers have been using drones in order to capture certain angles that you couldn’t get any other way.
Now not everyone is thrilled about the idea of just anyone being able to get their hands on a drone and just starts up their own business. In order to fly a drone professionally and you are getting paid. You have to be certified by the FFA for a drone pilot license. There are also the concerns of people invading peoples privacy by peeping through windows. However even now the courts are looking into passing laws that prevent such activities from happening.
